A Sea Water Chlorinator is an electro-chlorination system that produces sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) directly from seawater or brine solution. Sodium hypochlorite is a powerful disinfectant widely used to eliminate bacteria, prevent algae growth, and control biofouling in seawater systems.
The system works by circulating seawater through an electro-chlorination cell known as an electrolyser. When DC power is applied to the titanium electrodes inside the cell, the chloride ions present in the saline water are oxidized to form chlorine gas. At the same time, water is reduced near the cathode to produce sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. The chlorine then reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium hypochlorite solution.
This sodium hypochlorite solution can either be directly dosed into the process water system or stored in tanks for controlled dosing or shock dosing depending on operational requirements.
